An Invitation to Join #ChangeTheNow

In 2018 Georgian College, Canada’s first Ashoka Changemaker College, wanted to know if they could mobilize students from kindergarten to Post Secondary into a movement, effectively building a region of Changemakers. It was from here that #ChangeTheNow began.

Do Good to Do Well

#ChangeTheNow was created on the beliefs that small acts can lead to big change and collaborations can turn into largescale movements. We believe together students’, educators’ and communities’ ideas can spark systems shifts that make will make our communities greener, healthier, safer, stronger and more inclusive!

    🤔 Reflection question

What session inspired you the most during Changemaker in Residency Week, and why?

    Victoria's Answer

I got to experience the Resume and Skill Building with Micro-Certificates and the most inspiring part of the session for myself was learning about how the micro certificates were developed. I found this interesting and I am glad that I am part of being a changemaker.

By having a system mindset means to have a holistic approach towards dealing with many factors and forces that could contribute to understand and solve a complex problem. It will be helpful in knowing what makes the problem so complex and what are the reasons behind it.

    🤔 Reflection question

How might the prototype & test stage help you with overcoming a fear of failure or challenging your assumptions about what is ‘right’?

    Jennifer's Answer

We used REAL life experiences and resourced materials to make prototypes. This gave us opportunities to give constructive criticism within the group, further preparing us for outside critism when presenting later.

    🤔 Reflection question

How might ideation help you develop your active listening skills to brainstorm and reflect on ideas effectively with your team?

    Jennifer's Answer

This stage was the most active stage for all my group participants. Conversations were taking place, full inclusion, where everyone felt heard, and everyone contributed to an idea. We threw verious ideas around using the lab resources making our visions "come to life". The level of maturity and self control to hear everyone and feel heard was impressive.

    🤔 Reflection question

How might the prototype & test stage help you with overcoming a fear of failure or challenging your assumptions about what is ‘right’?

    shinto's Answer

Prototyping, as I knew it, is the process of building a model of the actual thing that needs to be made. As a result, we will be thrown into a realistic situation and forced to confront, evaluate, and manage its consequences. This will stronger in our success as we learn how to handle such circumstances. As we shall learn everything by really encountering it, the fear of failure can be successfully controlled. A vital element in the design thinking process, prototyping allows for immediate and low-risk user input. A prototype is an early sample or model of a product created to test a concept or method.

    🤔 Reflection question

How might ideation help you develop your active listening skills to brainstorm and reflect on ideas effectively with your team?

    shinto's Answer

when the ideation stage is in progress. Numerous ideas were generated by us. I had to pay attention to my team's ideas and thought processes when I came up with this concept. Afterwards, we all contributed to that concept to make it stronger and more useful, which also helped us become better active listeners. This also helps teams become better active listeners.

    🤔 Reflection question

How might ideation help you develop your active listening skills to brainstorm and reflect on ideas effectively with your team?

    Basilona's Answer

Throughout the ideation stage, we came up with numerous ideas that we had not previously considered. It helped us improve our active listening skills because I had to listen to my team's thoughts and thought process when coming up with this idea. We then each contributed to that idea to make it stronger and more effective. Our team struggled with the Ideation stage, which required intense brainstorming to come up with different ideas and how each idea might fit in the ideate canvas. However, it aided us in thinking differently and coming up with new solutions to the problem. We listened to and discussed each other's ideas as we worked through the ideate template, and it was a great way to boost our team's active participation

The advantages of having this mentality help us understand and deal with the issue we are currently facing as well as a number of other issues that might come up as a result of our efforts. Despite the fact that every issue cannot be solved but still having a system-thinking mindset, we can prepare ourselves for upcoming situations.
