An Invitation to Join #ChangeTheNow

In 2018 Georgian College, Canada’s first Ashoka Changemaker College, wanted to know if they could mobilize students from kindergarten to Post Secondary into a movement, effectively building a region of Changemakers. It was from here that #ChangeTheNow began.

Do Good to Do Well

#ChangeTheNow was created on the beliefs that small acts can lead to big change and collaborations can turn into largescale movements. We believe together students’, educators’ and communities’ ideas can spark systems shifts that make will make our communities greener, healthier, safer, stronger and more inclusive!

Will you join us in creating the positive change and contribute to 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals?

    🤔 Reflection question

After completing CTN, what new awareness do you have for yourself (ME) and your community (WE) and what is one action you might take to continue to explore it?

    Sachu's Answer

This approach taught me fresh perspectives on issues and the value of being informed about what's going on in the globe and in our communities. I'll keep looking into methods for bringing about change to assist communities that struggle with accessibility and inclusivity issues. I'll also bring with me the knowledge that sometimes even the simplest actions can have a big influence. The CTN provided a novel and interesting experience. It helped me to see that even a small effort might result in enormous cultural change. I was able to understand the importance of each system stakeholder better.

    🤔 Reflection question

What did you learn about publicly sharing your ideas that you will carry with you in your future of work?

    Sachu's Answer

I realised how important it is to communicate your views to others since they might be able to bring about the change we want to see in the neighbourhood. Along with your own, it's crucial to get everyone's ideas and opinions, as those could influence how you improve the idea. I discovered that we can all try to alter the community by sharing our opinions. Additionally, it is better to have other people's opinions and thoughts added on top of your own.

I had a great time participating in this activity with my group members, and it also helped me learn more about the UN Sustainable Development Goals. It was the most valuable portion of the session for me since it highlighted numerous targets and objectives that can assist me and other changemakers in enacting a variety of social reforms that will benefit society as a whole.

    🤔 Reflection question

What did you learn about publicly sharing your ideas that you will carry with you in your future of work?

    Jeen's Answer

I discovered how crucial storyboard planning can be and how many different elements go into crafting a compelling narrative that many readers can relate to. The significance of crafting a message that people can broadly and intensely connect with will stay with me. This will help me share my ideas publicly with confidence and without fear of failure, which will help me as a future changemaker.

After completing CTN, what new awareness do you have for yourself (ME) and your community (WE) and what is one action you might take to continue to explore it?

    Andrea's Answer

This process, allowed me to learn new ways of looking at a problem and how important it is to be aware of what is happening in our communities and around the world. I am going to continue to explore change-making ideas to help communities with gaps in inclusiveness and accessibility. I will also take with me the understanding that sometimes the smallest steps can have a significant impact. This experience has also helped me understand what I want to do once I graduate from Child and Youth Care. The CTN experience is one that I will never forget.

    🤔 Reflection question

What did you learn about publicly sharing your ideas that you will carry with you in your future of work?

    Andrea's Answer

I have learned that everyone has ideas and the more that we share our thoughts and ideas the greater chance we have at making change. Sharing your ideas can be scary and vulnerable, however, it takes courage and collaboration with others to take an idea and build upon it. This process has confirmed for me that change-making is a path I am meant to be on.

I have become increasingly more aware of the difficulties our community faces everyday with transportation, and how it effects the community as a whole. I have also learned to look at the community from a different lens/perspective, and how hard it can be to do that.
